A/N: Holy shit, I am so sorry it has taken this long for Between the Spotlights to receive an update. I got sidetracked by life, getting a second job and other projects all demanding my undivided attention. I actually have an obscene amount of this story completed (I’ve already used up a whole notebook…); it just needs to be typed up and posted. I’m going to attempt to be more diligent about doing so in the future, but if I falter again, I ask that you forgive me.

This chapter was extremely tricky to write. I couldn’t find the right soundtrack for it, so I kept flitting between “Brown Eyes” and “Poker Face” by Lady GaGa, and also the entirety of The Fame Monster trying desperately to find the right vibe for Seto. Ultimately, this chapter ended up as a straight up mix between “Monster” and “Poker Face,” which I think works quite well for Seto.

NOTES ON NAMES, HONORIFICS, AND CHARACTER DESIGNS: When a narrative is written from a particular character’s POV, I will be using their first name. This is simply because I think it is strange and unrealistic for a character to self-identify by their last name alone. I know a lot of people seem to get their panties in a knot whenever an author uses certain characters’ first names, and make noises that “they use their last name in the manga/anime! Baw! Stick to the canon! Baw!” If you’re one of those, this is your cue to click the back button. Last names will be used, however, if the character from whose POV I am writing commonly refers to the other character that way (example: Yuugi will refer to Jonouchi as Jonouchi, not Katsuya).
As for honorifics, I will be using them, but only in dialogue, not in narrative.
Also – I have made some slight tweaks to certain character designs. Mostly just picking and choosing which eye colors I like best whenever the colors differ between the anime and manga. For example, Anzu will be described as having lavender eyes, not blue, because I am the author, and I can do that.
AUTHOR’S NOTES: This is a sequel to my fic Games. Although I view Games as being a prolonged prologue to Between the Spotlights, I believe this fic can stand on its own. However, you can find Games in my anime archive if you have not yet read it and are interested in doing so.

AUTHOR’S NOTES: Rebellion in the Blood began as nothing more than the ficlet “Extra-Curricular Activities” which leads off this collection of stories. I had originally intended the piece to either remain a ficlet or some day become a multi-chapter. My brain had very different ideas. I’m not really sure how I came up with the idea of putting together an anthology of stories with my favorite half-Saiyan descendant of royalty at its nexus, but I think it’s turned out to be a pretty nifty project.

These three stories are all about Trunks in some manner, but they do not necessarily connect in one overarching story like my other collection of DBZ short stories, Monsters. Each fic is a universe unto itself; what ties the stories together is Trunks himself.

My goal with this project was just simply to have fun, and I hope that the sense of joy I brought to the creative process shines through in the writing. My idea of “fun” is probably not typical; it includes the results of bad parenting (“Extra-Curricular Activities”), divine retribution (“Erosion”), and wild December-May affairs (“Unruly Conduct”). I had a blast writing each and every one of these themes, however, and it is my deepest wish that you enjoy reading them as well.
